The magnetic levitation force at liquid nitrogen temperature has been measured for cylinder-type and ring-type YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-z}$ bulk samples with different thicknesses. For both cylinder-type and ring-type samples, the measured levitation force density increases as the sample thickness decreases. However, the levitation force density for the cylinder-type sample tends to saturate as the sample thickness is increased above about 5 mm whereas for the ring-type sample, it shows a nearly linear decrease with increasing sample thickness. The levitation force density of the ring-type sample is found to be higher than that of the cylinder-type sample with the same sample thickness. The presented results are thought to have utilization potential for optimization to improve the superconductng levitation force.
