Theoretical investigation of the potentiality of conceptual blending view: focusing on analysis of the concept of wave-particle duality

Abstract
Framework of conceptual blending was suggested as an alternative view of conceptual metaphor and analogy and has become influential in various fields. However, only a few studies have investigated the possibility of the frame in the context of science education. This study applies the frame to analysis of the concept of wave-particle duality so as to investigate the possible merit of the frame in comparison of typical view of analogy and metaphor. For the purpose, the conceptual blending view is briefly introduced and the difference between the view and typical view of metaphor and analogy is discussed. Then it is argued that the wave-particle duality concept is better understood in the view of conceptual blending than typical view of analogy. This results suggest that it is necessary that the potentiality of the conceptual blending is investigated as a complement of typical view of analogy and metaphor.
