The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the understanding improvement program about the characteristics of currents according to the connection methods of batteries. Fifteen elementary school teachers divided into the five small groups were tested, by using a questionnaire, on the concepts about the characteristics of currents before and after implementing the program. The degree of understanding and the levels of the concept were defined as a quantitative change and a qualitative one, respectively, to inspect more minutely the effects of the program in this study. Then, the changes in the concepts had by the teachers before and after implementing the program were analyzed based on the definitions. The results of the analysis showed that the understanding improvement program was effective in improving the concepts of elementary school teachers, both quantitatively and qualitatively, about the characteristics of the currents according to the connection methods of batteries.
