Study on the Emitting Property and the Color Gamut of K2SiF6:Mn4+ Phosphor-based White Llight Emitting Diodes

Abstract
White light emitting diodes (LED) based on red K2SiF6:Mn4+ (KSF) and Lu3Al5O12:Ce3+ (LuAG) green phosphors were fabricated and compared to the most conventional yellow Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ (YAG) phosphor-based white LEDs. The emitting spectrum of the KSF-based white LED was measured as a function of driving current and temperature. The changes in the color coordinates of the KSF-based white LED over wide current and temperature ranges were less than 0.01 which are substantially smaller than those of the YAG-based white LEDs. This demonstrates that the thermal stability of the KSF- and LuAG-based white LED is high compared to the conventional white LEDs. The color gamut of the KSF-based white LED is more than 92%, which is much higher than 74% of the YAG-based white LED. This result is mainly due to the sharper emitting peaks of the KSF and LuAG phosphors.
