Abstract

Much damages in cities is caused by subsidence. Of the damage, 81.4\% is caused by damage to sewage pipes so a need to a inspect sewage pipes is emerging. Sewage pipes are made of materials suitable for the shape of the ground, construction, cost, etc. Most popular materials in sewage pipes are concrete, polyethylene and glass fiber. Concrete is widely used as a rigid pipe because it is low cost and has high strength. However, concrete is easily cracked by impact and corrosion due to acids easily occurs corrosion, so periodic inspection is essential. Ultrasonic testing is considered to be a useful technique for inspecting concrete pipes. However, a to study of ultrasonic signals for various types of defects is essential because of the complexity of the concrete pipes' structures. In this study, we analyze ultrasonic waves according to defect shape by using finite-element-method (FEM) simulation and conduct a test with water flowing in concrete pipes.
