Abstract
In this study, we performed an overall evaluation, focusing on the assessment of physics subject, of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), which was recently introduced as an alternative to public education by some education offices. The evaluation areas of IB DP were the DP Core, internal assessment (IA) and external assessment (EA) and the evaluation were done by teachers and external examiners of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). The evaluation items and evaluation methods of the subjects were found to differ depending on their characteristics and levels. In the case of physics, the EA consists of Paper 1, 2 and 3, where Paper 1 consists of multiple-choice problems and Papers 2 and 3 consist of short-answer problems and extended response questions. Especially, Paper 3 evaluates a student's experimental ability. Using the results of these analyses, we discussed the implications of the evaluation methods and the assessment questions of IB DP for the physics educational system.
