A Study of Middle School Students' Misconceptions Related to Magnetism

Abstract

Magnetism and its related phenomena are frequently addressed in science textbook. The purpose of this study was to examine middle school students' misconceptions related to magnetism. Subjects were asked to participate in an experiment using iron powder and magnets. Then surveys and interviews to identify various misconceptions about magnets and magnetic fields were conducted. The results showed that students had various misconceptions about magnets and magnetic fields.
