Analysis of Teachers' Understanding of the Changes in the Physics Content in the 2009 Revised Science National Curriculum with a Focus on Optics

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the teachers' understanding of the changes in the physics contents in the 2009 national curriculum. To fulfill the purpose of this study, we asked physics teachers questions about the change in the physics content: image, color, wave, sound and electromagnetic wave. The results from this study were as follows: First, most of the teachers didn't know the changes in the content from the previous grade. Second, many teachers were confused about the optics parts of the 2009 revised national curriculum and the 7th national curriculum. Third, many teachers thought that the change in the physics content in the national curriculum were not important. Teachers need to understand correctly the changes in the about physics content in the curriculum in order to teach professionally and realize the learning objectives in the curriculum.
