Abstract

In order to satisfy the thin thickness of the backlight unit (BLU) according to the recent trend in the flexible LCD, we combined a side light-emitting type plastic optical fiber (POF) light source device by processing a micro line pattern in the cladding layer with a light guide plate (LGP), and we analyzed the light emission effect under various conditions by using a computer simulations. As a result, the application of two types of scattering patterns on the bottom surface of the light guide plate, which includes the POF light source device pattern, is proposed for improved directionality of the light emission according to the scattering pattern. In addition, the light-emitting effect of the LGP was confirmed to be improves when the light from the optimized pattern is processed by POF light source device and is uniformly incident on the light guide plate even though the thickness of the light guide plate is decreased.

최근 flexible LCD 동향에 맞춰 BLU (Back-light unit)의 박형화를 만족시키고자 측면 발광형 플라스틱 광섬유 (Plastic Optical Fiber, POF)의 클래딩층 (cladding)에 미세 패턴을 line 형태로 가공한 POF 광원장치를 도광판 (Light Guide Plate, LGP)에 결합하고, 다양한 조건하에서 발광효과를 분석하고자 전산모사를 수행하였다. 그 결과 적정 변수로 선정된 패턴이 가공된 POF 광원장치를 결합시킨 도광판의 배면에 두 가지 타입의 산란 패턴을 적용하여 패턴에 따른 발광효과에 대해 개선된 방향성을 제시하였다. 또한 최적화된 패턴이 가공된 POF 광원장치로부터 빛이 고르게 입사되면 도광판의 두께가 감소하더라도 내부에 가공된 산란패턴에 의해 상부에 균일한 상태로 전달되어 도광판의 발광효과가 향상됨을 확인하였다.
