Development of a New Electromagnet and Investigation of its Characteristics for Efficiency of Science Classes Related to the Magnetic Effect of an Electric Current

Since the 3rd science curriculum for the inquiry based curriculum of Korea, the problems of students having difficulty and spending much time in making the electromagnet have caused some trouble in class operation. Also, the results of the experiments about the magnetic force of the electromagnet do not always turn out as predicted theoretically in the science classes related to the magnetic effect of a current. For the operation of science classes related to the magnetic effect of a current, a new electromagnet has been developed, and its characteristics were investigated in this research. The new electromagnet consists of a threaded rod as the core, vinyl insulated electric wires as loop electric wires, and bakers wire as the binding twine so that it is easy to make within a short period of time. Also, the electromagnetic characteristics of the new electromagnet can help in understanding the concepts and the laws of science about the magnetic force of an electromagnet.
