Abstract

Gravitational waves from the binary black hole merger GW150914 were detected in 2015. In addition, gravitational waves from the binary neutron star merger GW170817 were detected in 2017, followed by electromagnetic observations at various wavelengths from gamma-ray to radio wavelengths. These observations opened a new era of multi-messenger astronomy and astrophysics. Due to the short distance to the source, the tidal deformability of neutron stars, which contains information on their inner structure, has been estimated for GW170817. In this work, we discuss the possibilities of using gravitational waves to measure the tidal deformability of neutron stars.

2015년 블랙홀 쌍성의 병합에서 발생한 중력파 GW150914의 검출이 성공적으로 이루어졌다. 이어 2017년 중성자별 쌍성의 병합에서 발생한 중력파 GW170817과 더불어 감마선에서 전파에 이르는 다양한 파장의 전자기파 후속 관측에 성공하였다. 이 관측은 다중신호 천문학 및 천체물리시대를 열었다. 특히, GW170817의 경우 중력파원까지의 거리가 가까워 중성자별 내부 구조에 대한 정보를 포함하는 조력 변형성이 관측되었다. 이 논문에서는 중성자별 쌍성계에서 발생한 중력파를 분석하여 중성자별의 조력 변형성을 측정할 수 있는 가능성을 논의한다.
