Study on the Magnetization Reversal Behaviors of Pt/Co/Pt Films Depending on the Direction of the External Magnetic Field

Abstract

We measure the dependence of the change in the magnetization reversal phenomenon on the magnetic-field direction in a Pt/Co/Pt thin film by using the magneto-optical Kerr measurement that can measure both the magnetic hysteresis curve and the magnetic viscous curve by controlling the direction of the magnetic field. Interestingly, the magnetic viscous curves with respect to the magnetic field showed that the magnetization reversals of the Pt/Co/Pt films could be well explained by using the thermal activation model. Also, we found that the thermal activation volumes at all samples increased as the direction of the external magnetic field deviated from the easy axis of magnetization. This implies that the propagation of the magnetic domain walls is influenced not only by the easy-axis component of the external magnetic field but also by its hard-axis component during magnetization reversal.

본 연구에서는 자기장 방향을 조절하며 자기이력곡선과 자기점성곡선을 측정할 수 있는 광자기 Kerr 자력계를 이용하여 Pt/Co/Pt 박막에서 와부자기장의 방향에 따른 자화역전현상 변화를 측정하였다. 흥미롭게도, 자기장의 크기에 따른 자기점성곡선을 측정한 결과 Pt/Co/Pt 박막의 자화역전 현상이 열적활성화모델로 잘 설명이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 외부자기장의 방향이 자화용이축에서 벗어날수록 자화역전의 기본단위인 열적 활성화 부피가 증가함을 확인하였다. 이는 자구벽 이동 성향이 자화역전과정에서 외부자기장의 자화용이축 방향 성분 뿐 아니라, 자화곤란축 방향 성분도 영향을 준다는 것을 말한다.
